This night I slept really well again! Even though it was quite cold I slept like a baby throughout the whole night in my warm quilt – wonderful. Before going back on trail I messed my sister via Garmin satellite communicator because today is my niece’s birthday! She is turning four years old already. Damn I miss my family so much. Anyways, we had less than four miles (6.4km) till the summit of Muir Pass (3 649m). Three miles (4.8km) before the summit there were only snow fields that we had to cross. I knew this one would have more snow before and after the summit and honestly I was kind of looking forward to that. It wasn’t steep or anything and with the micro spikes we made it to the top in about three hours. There was a really cool stone shelter at the top dedicated to the John Muir after which the pass is called.
We took there a little break and then continued till we made a longer afternoon break at a lake where I took another swim. So refreshing! We chilled for a while and then me and Sinead decided to go ahead. The others wanted to do another 5-7miles but after two hours of walking me and Sinead decided to camp and the next tentsite. It was already 6pm and we were getting closer to the worst river crossing there is on the PCT so better doing that in the morning. We actually found a really lovely tentsite next to the Evolution river (the one to be crossed) that was still fairly calm with a deer family chilling on the other riverside. The whole surroundings were honestly so picturesque. I decided we are going to make a fire since we were below 11 000 feet (and it was allowed) and there was a fire pit too. Once the others passed us they decided to camp here too. Tonight we had to set up our tents after a while since the mosquitoes started being pretty damn annoying. With a quick dip in the river and lovely dinner by the fire we ended up having a re nice evening though.
