Although I went to sleep pretty late last night (read 1am !!), I slept really good again. The sun woke me up nicely before my alarm and before taking a quick shower I enjoyed the birds singing for a while. After the shower we all enjoyed great breakfast again – french toast with blueberries and a maple syrup. Once we packed our stuff and thanked Cookies for his huge hospitality and kindness, we headed out, got a breakfast burrito and an iced chai latte at a local cafe and then walked to the ranger station where we planned on getting a hitch back to the trail. It didn’t even take us 5 minutes and Ann got us a ride – while me and Stefi were in the bathroom. Awesome! Once we got back to the Sonora Pass where we ended up two days ago, I felt a little bit sick to my stomach. The breakfast burrito together with the winding road didn’t make up for the best combination.
After a little warmup it got better and feet were back in the game. The only disadvantage was yet again Connie. We “only” have food for the next four days but somehow the bear canister always ends up being heavy no matter how much food we have in there. Even though it wasn’t a busy day we met Bluebird and Trip Advisor – an American couple we met in the beginning of our hike and also before Mammoth. They are really nice and hung out with us throughout the afternoon. At one point we heard a thunderstorm but thankfully it passed us. The views were yet again stunning but around 7pm we got tired and decided to cowboy camp. We cooked some good dinner and had s’mores as a dessert. Yes we are carrying marshmallows, crackers and chocolate to celebrate July 4th in a few days. We might make it to Lake Tahoe for that holiday but if not, we will have a nice bonfire somewhere on the trail.
