I woke up with a cough. Awesome. Stefi has been coughing for days and now I got it too. Hopefully it won’t get worse. We packed everything and got going because today we had to get to Sierra City where a trail angel – Donie – would pick us up and then we would stay at his place. We still had 27 miles (43.2km) to go but luckily it was mostly downhill today. After the first 15 miles (24km) we took a lunch break and gave our feet some rest. It was also the last time I would get stuff out from my bear canister. Tomorrow we will drop them off at the grocery store in Sierra City. I still wasn’t feeling that great so you can only imagine how happy I was when we got to the road where Donie was waiting for us. He drove us to his place where we could pitch our tents in his backyard. So much space! All the beds inside of the house were taken but honestly I didn’t mind. I really like sleeping in my tent and it was going to be a warm night anyway.

First I took a much needed shower and then enjoyed some veggie burgers that Donie cooked for us. What a treat. My feet were also happy I did not have to walk another mile today. Stefi, me, Donie and a couple of other hikers sat in the living room and talked about trail life. There was a really nice vibe and staying with a trail angel is simply 100 times better than a hostel room. Around 10pm I called it a night and got into my tent. It was another long day  so I’m happy I can sleep a bit longer tomorrow.
