Day 70! 70 days on the Pacific Crest Trail already. Wow. It doesn’t even feel that long to be honest and we are not even halfway through though the rest after the Sierras will go by much faster. What an accomplishment already! This morning we had one of the top 3 most dangerous river crossings ahead of us – the Evolution Creek. We were going to take the easier alternate way but at the junction we read a note that the water is knee high as of yesterday so we crossed it where the main trail lead us. It was definitely the widest stream we have crossed and the current was strong but with slow movements and facing upstream we all got safely to the other shore. Throughout the day we had to cross some other streams as well but all of them were fairly easy. Around noon we started ascending to the summit of the Selden Pass (3 643m). The first 2 miles (3.2km) were honestly pretty brutal because they were exposed and the sun was really hot. Almost felt like being back in the desert.

Once we got most of the climb done we made a lunch break but had to put out bug nets on because the mosquitoes started being really annoying again. At around 5pm we finally summited the Selden Pass. There were few snow patches but other than that it was easy to summit. On the other side we got a gorgeous view of a lake and the only thing that was making everything a tad bit less enjoyable were the mosquitoes. At 6:30pm we decided to camp next to the Bear Creek and not continue further like Croco and Laurenz did. The Bear Creek is among the top 3 most dangerous river crossings and honestly this late in the day it was raging and the current looked really strong. We were also already really tired and hungry so decided to cross it in the morning. We cooked some dinner – with our bug nets on – and then went to our tents (except for Ann who is cowboy camping) to get some sleep after today’s 23 miles (38km).
