This night was yet again really cold. Even my water in my water bottle froze but thankfully I wasn’t cold at all and got a pretty decent sleep. We got going around 7:30am because today we were gonna do around 15 miles (24km). Around 10am we stopped by the 1000 Islands Lake that looked very tempting but it was still quite cold so no swim for us. We waited for Ann and Lorenz who camped with the other tramily (the one from the camper van) but because we were already getting cold, soon we got going again. Today’s plan was to summit the Donohue Pass (3 375m). The whole morning was more or less uphill but thankfully it wasn’t so hot which was nice. Once we scrambled our way up I did my mandatory “wohooo” and then we took a lunch break.
If you ask me, this pass was probably the least scenic one so far although it was cloudy and quite chilly at the top. Ann and the other group got up a bit later and took a lunch break as well. Me, Stefi and Croco took a little nap as well and then we continued. The rest of the day was all downhill with some nasty rock steps that my knees did not enjoy so much. Once we made it to the bottom of the climb there were meadows all around us with a crystal clear water in a nearby river. We had to do 4 more miles (6.4km) to get to our tentsite. It was also one of the last chances for camping because 4 miles before and after the Tuolumne Meadows it’s forbidden to camp this year due to some renovations along the trail. Tomorrow we have to get up already at 5am to catch the bus at 8am because we plan on visiting the Yosemite Valley! Should be pretty cool.
