Last night I slept pretty good again but well one or two hours more would have been nice. I woke up shortly at 2am because coyotes started howling. That was cool. As planned today was to be one of the longest yet so we started at 6am and with some smaller breaks continued till our lunch break at 1:30pm. The whole morning we were passing some really cool rock formations which made me feel like I’m either in a Hobit movie or the Lord of the Rings. It really gave me Scotland vibes as well. The weather was holding up quite nicely today. It was cloudy and a bit windy at times which made some of the climbs easier at least. By 1:30pm we have already done 18 miles (28.8km) which was really good already. During our one hour lunch break we also took a little nap and then continued.
We had 12 more miles (19.2km) to go and somehow the afternoon felt a bit easier. At least it did today. My feet and legs felt good and Connie has finally gotten lighter as well. Although we passed two busy roads today we didn’t get any trail magic but at least we could finish those 12 miles and got to our tentsite by 20pm. It was definitely a long day but now we know that doing 30 miles (48km) is definitely possible. It might not have been that enjoyable but with the next days to come we have to start doing bigger miles in order to make it to the Northern Terminus in time. Me and Stefi have a bit more time but Ann has to be back at work by mid September so she might need to start pushing even more. Let’s see. First let’s enjoy and celebrate July 4th in South Lake Tahoe tomorrow!
