This morning I could finally sleep in again (read till 7am) but once I got up I wasn’t feeling that great. The cough that started yesterday has gotten a bit worse but luckily no sore throat so hopefully it’ll go away soon. For breakfast we enjoyed some really good waffles Donie made us and then I took a shower. Afterwards I called my family and my boss from my job since we had to discuss the plan for the winter season already. Once we packed everything again Donie gave us a ride to the Sierra City where me and Stefi picked up our resupply box. We also got some stuff at the local grocery store and more importantly returned the bear canisters there! Then had lunch – burgers of course – before heading out back to trail. From today we should expect the weather to be hot once again. I know it’s summer and it’s supposed to be warm but for hiking I simply prefer cooler temperatures. Anyway it’s part of the game and I do know what I signed up for.
When we got back on trail we had to do a 7 mile (11.2km) long climb and with my cough and the hot weather you can only imagine how enjoyable that was. Since I am writing this you guessed right we made it. It was also late aft so the sun wasn’t that strong anymore and we even enjoyed some breeze. On top of that we passed the 1 200 mile marker (1 920km). Wohoo! At the top of the climb we were surprised by another trail magic – soda and chips – and nearby we found a nice spot for cowboy camping. During dinner we enjoyed the gorgeous sunset and took a lot of photos in the meantime of course. Although the bear canister was gone a four day food carry is pretty heavy but at least it will get lighter soon.
