What a great sleep I got this night! Not only was the temperature good but there was also no wind or any other sounds whatsoever. We got up before sunrise but by the time we hiked out it has already gotten much brighter. Although we planned on having easy three days before getting to Burney on Saturday it turned out we had to do more than 27 miles (43.2km) today. The reason was the Lassen National Park where you are required to have your food either in a bear canister or an ursack and since we have already returned our bear canister we had to go through the park in one day and camp outside of the border. I know you might think that a bear doesn’t really care about some sign telling him that’s where the national park ends but rules are rules and we try to follow them here. 

Most of the Lassen National Park is unfortunately also a burn zone because that was an area also affected by the Dixie fire in 2021. However, there were still some pretty damn cool natural sights you could see there. Since the park is volcanic we got to see a really cool thermal geyser and a lake that immediately reminded me of Iceland. All the colors and smell were pretty much the same. The whole day we also got to see a lot of deer. Even though there is thousands of dead trees the wildlife still found its way back here. The sun was again quite strong today so after our lunch break by a river, my sun umbrella was my best friend yet again. Thankfully the terrain has gotten flatter in the afternoon which means we were walking faster. At 7:45pm we finally made it out of the Lassen National Park and found a tentsite nearby. The whole evening a deer was paying us company and I am only hoping I will get as good sleep as last night.
